Welcome to #InspireAfricaProject! Am sure the moment you read the title of this discussion, you thought that we are going to kill every enemy that said we will never succeed in life. Actually I want to show you the real enemy that is fighting against your prosperity. Unfortunately, this enemy is not far from us. In fact, this enemy is very close to us. To be honest with you, that enemy vowed that your generation will never celebrate your exploits before you die. Let’s see what that enemy does.
You will never become successful as long as you continue to blame someone or something else for your lack of success. If you are going to be a winner, you have to acknowledge the truth- it is you who took the actions, thought the thoughts, created the feelings, and made the choices that got you to where you are. It was you! It was you who chose to become your own enemy!
You are the one who ate junk food. You are the one who didn’t say no! You are the one who took the job. You are the one who stayed in the job even when it was obvious you’re doing the wrong thing that could lead to jail term. You are the one who chose to believe them. You are the one who ignored your intuition.
You are the one who abandoned your dream at home and traveled abroad, and right now you’re working as a mortician. You are the one who bought the idea of abandoning your dream to chase shadows. You are the one who didn’t take care of your health, instead you ate unhealthy foods that turned you into a patient. You are the one who decided you had to do it alone instead of hiring professionals to help you out. You are the one who chose to trusts swindlers. You are the one who said yes to dubious business partners.
In fact, you thought the thoughts, you created the feelings, you made the choices, you said the words, and that’s why you are where you are now! Your negative choices have yielded negative outcomes that you are complaining about. It was you who determined the kind of future you are going to have by the choices you made in the past. You knew that the person you’re in love with has anger problem, instead of running for your dear life, you said that you would change him or her. Now you have black eyes and damaged nose as your harvest.
Are you not the one who chose to play instead of hustling to make enough money and save for your retirement when you were younger? Now you’re 70 Years old, and you’re still hustling to survive. Yesterday’s seeds have become today’s harvest. Are you not the one who spent every dime you made in the past? You squandered every dime you made in unprofitable stuff, now you are stranded in life, and you’re blaming the devil. It was you who chose the kind of future you wanted to have.
Let’s take a moment to really look at complaining. In order to complain about something or someone, you have to believe that something better exists. You have to have a reference point of something you prefer that you are not willing to take responsible for creating. Let’s look at that closely.
If you didn’t believe there was something better- more money, a bigger house, a more fulfilling job or business, a more loving spouse, you couldn’t complain. So you have this image of something better and you know you would prefer it, but you are unwilling to take the risks that would be required to create it. So you relax somewhere to blame everybody and everything, forgetting that you are responsible for what you have.
Jack Canfield said that, “People only complain about things they can do something about. We don’t complain about the things we have no power over. Have you ever heard anyone complain about gravity? No! Why? Because there is nothing anyone can do about gravity, so we just accept it. We know that complaining will not change it, so we don’t complain about it.
The circumstances you complain about are, by their very nature, situations you can change, but you have chosen not to. You can get a better job, find more loving partner, live in a nicer house, live in a better neighborhood, and eat healthier food. But all of these things would require you to change.” So instead of changing, you blame the devil and your ancestors.
Don’t be your own enemy. Greater percentage of what Africans chase demons and ancestral spirits for were the things we caused by ourselves; and they are the things we can handle if we can change our lifestyles. But instead of changing, we look for who is after our progress.
Just imaging a young man whose net worth is N10 million. During Christmas, he took N7 million from that money to buy a brand new SUV to show people in the village that he has arrived. By the time he returns to the city, he discovered that the business is struggling. Instead of selling the car, he will look for a seer who will definitely tell him that when he travelled to the village, a witch vowed to destroy his sources of income. He will shout, and start one hundred days midnight warfare!
Take full responsibility today to live a better life. Since you have discovered that you are your number one enemy, it is time to change and restructure your life. A man who is heading to a wrong direction must stop at a point and tell himself the truth, turn back and look for the right direction. Don’t tell me you cannot change because you’re simply lying. Every human being can change. All it takes is an honest decision.
Learn to cook healthier food. Say no in the face of peer pressure. Quit and find a better job. Take the time to conduct due diligence. Trust your own intuition. Go back to school to pursue your dream. Manage your resources better. Ask others to assist you. Take a self-development class. Get rid of every lifestyle or actions that are taking you to the wrong direction in life. Just do it!
Why don’t people simply take the right decision that can change their lives forever? It’s because they involved risks. You can run the risk of being unemployed, left alone by your friends, or ridiculed and judged by others. You run the risk of failure, confrontation, or being wrong. You run the risk of your friends, neighbors, or your spouse disapproving of you.
Making a change might take effort, money, and time. It might be uncomfortable, or confusing. And so, to avoid risking any of those uncomfortable feelings and experiences, you stay put and complain about it. If you want to get from where you are to where you want to be, you’re going to have to take that risk.
So make the decision to stop looking for the enemies that vowed to eliminate you, or render you useless in life. The Name of Jesus is enough to deal with that. Stop spending time with complainers, and get in with creating the life of your dream. Quit complaining and take the right actions that will guarantee a fantastic future. Lou Holtz said that, “The man who complains about the way the ball bounces is likely the one who dropped it.” Responsibility remains the price of greatness! Keep soaring!
