Welcome to #KingdomManna on #InspireAfricaProject! One of the strangest things that makes me comfortable in the body of Christ today is the culture of looking for a powerful man of God who has the magic wand to take away all your problems. The second one is that some Christians don’t know God by themselves or study the Bible by themselves, they quote their priests and pastors. They say something like, “My pastor said that the Bible has the power to transform lives.” If you ask them where you can locate that statement in the Bible, they can’t tell.
On several occasions, people have called me to become their prayer contractor and it sounds strange to me. One gave me his business card so that I can be fasting and praying for him, and he will be sowing seed. I rebuked him and said, “if you want to me to help you, I will only only show you how to go to God by yourself because in the Dispensation of Grace, we don’t need an intermediary!” I knew he was wealthy, and am sure he will be sowing heavy seeds to me, but I refused to become his prayer contractor because I want to make heaven. Any minister that can overcome the temptation of money will go far in the ministry.
Unfortunately, many ministers are now standing as intermediaries to people. There is nothing wrong with interceding for people, but there is everything wrong when you become their god. That’s why many Christians are becoming spiritually lazy. Why pray and fast when you have a prophet that sees tomorrow for you? Why pray and fast when a servant of God will be going to the mountain on your behalf? Why pray and fast when a supposedly minister of God will come to your house to bless you every month and collect his prophets offering?
No wonder an average Christian in our clime don’t know how to take spiritual responsibility. Am not saying that we should not honour servants of God, but am saying that they should not replace God in your life. Look at the assignment of ministers. “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,” Ephesians 4:11-14.
The assignment of ministers is not to turn Christians into their personal properties, but to equip them. Ministers are spiritual trainers whose assignment is to turn baby Christians into spiritual giants. Your assignment is to equip the saints so that they can become arrows in the hand of God, and to edify or build them so that they will no longer be spiritual infants who go about hunting for anointing oil and prayer mat!
The kind of Christianity I met is where baby Christians are trained to take spiritual responsibility. We were taught how to pray, how to fast, how to go for personal camping, how go for morning cry and preach the Goodness, how to preach inside every bus we board, and how to study the Bible from cover to cover. To achieve this, we started organizing what we called prayer mates. We meet every week for vigils.
I remember how eight of us established an evangelism team. We bought public address system and started moving from place to place to preach the gospel. In fact, it was a training opportunity for us. That’s the kind of Christianity I know. We were taught how to take spiritual responsibility and not wait for anybody to pray and fast for you. Till today, I have never gone for either deliverance or prayer anywhere because I know how to deal with the devil.
Unfortunately, the Christians of today are taught how to move from church to church in search of powerful seers. That’s why someone will travel all the way from Australia to South Africa in search of prophecy and miracles. I was somewhere in the South South few weeks ago, and someone told me about a powerful man of God who sells prayer mat for N5,000, and people are rushing to buy it. Why, because if you pray on the mat, God will answer your prayer faster. We have reduced God to things in this part of the world.
I believe that the cause of this madness is that the ministers of today were not well trained. Miracles are not the validation of your call. Am writing this from somewhere in the North where I went to minister, and all manner of miracles have happened here, but you will never catch me laying emphasis on them. My number one assignment is to turn baby Christians into spiritual giants so that more people can engage in the Kingdom expansion project on earth.
Dear friend, it is time to grow up spiritually. You are not supposed to remain a spiritual infant after many years in the Kingdom. Look at what Paul said; “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” Hebrews 5:12-14.
God is saying that by now, you are not supposed to be traveling from place to place in search of baby milk, you are supposed to be eating spiritual food that is meant for adults. Why are you still wearing diapers in the spirit? Why do you panic when ordinary bird perches on your window by 1AM? Why are you hunting for anointing oil, anointing water, prayer mat, mustard seeds, prayer candle and mantle when you should be feasting on the Word of God daily to find out the solutions to your challenges?
Grow up! Don’t allow prophecies and miracles to make you loose your brain. Become a God-addict! Look at the number one heart desire of David; “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.When shall I come and appear before God?” Psalm 42:1-2. His heart desire was not miracles, but to encounter God in a special way. May that kind of spiritual hunger become your number one desire from today. May God reveal Himself to you. May uncommon hunger to study and grab revelations from God’s Word come afresh in your heart from now. Welcome to the season of supernatural interventions!
