Welcome to #LeadershipLessons on #InspireAfricaProject! One of the greatest challenges facing Africa today is lack of quality leadership. The biggest need of the hour both in Africa, families, churches and corporate organizations is quality leadership. Transformation cannot take place in a nation or an organization until a transformed leader takes charge. When a company, family, organization or nation is drifting towards anarchy or remains stagnant, poor leadership is responsible for it.
No organization can be greater that it’s leaders. The greatness of an organization or nation will always be directly proportionate to the greatness of the leader. Dr. Myles Monroe said that “An army of sheep led by a lion will always defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.” If you hand over lion-hearted men and women to a mediocre leader, he will turn them into mediocre individuals because he cannot give what he doesn’t have. On the other hand, if you gather nonentities and hand them over to a lion-hearted leader, he will turn them to lions!
After God completed the creation process nothing was happening on earth. Why? “…For the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground.” Genesis s 2:7. This incident shows that there is a dimension an organization will never attain until the right leader emerge.
God finished the creation, everything was available, but rain did not fall because there was nobody to till the ground. So as long as nobody took charge and ready to till the ground, God did not send rain. For example, everything that is needed to make Africa great are available in Africa, but because quality leaders have not emerged, our present leaders are travelling around the world with begging bowls!
Nothing happens until the right leadership is put in place. Sometime ago, CNN International said that you need 35 quadrillion Zimbabwean dollars to buy one American dollar! That means, to purchase a bag of rice, you will need a big bag to carry the money!
To reduce the size of money people carry around, the Zimbabwean government started printing denominations like 5 million Zimbabwean dollar! Yet The President and his economic team are still retaining their jobs. How can you lead a nation into poverty and wretchedness and you are not ready to resign and allow brilliant people to come in?
Africa is potentially the wealthiest continent on earth, unfortunately, it is occupied by the poorest people because of the kind of mediocre leaders we produce. Position does not make you a leader, it is the result you generate that does. Many people are hanging on leadership positions not because they know what they are doing, but because they are old in the organization.
Look at what is happening in Nigeria presently. Some governors can no longer pay their workers salary because the dwindling crude oil price has affected the money they share in Abuja monthly and they are practically confused of what to do! The economy is comatose and our leaders are still talking about what they will do, not what they are doing.
Average African leader has sharing mentality, not wealth creation mentality. That was why Senator Ben Murray Bruce said that, “If we won’t practice True Federalism, a time may come when Federal Government has nothing to share to states but barrels of oil to look for buyers themselves.”
What is leadership?
1. Leadership Is Being Dissatisfied With The Current Realities.
Anyone who has the desire to change the condition a particular group of people are facing is a great leader. Nehemiah had an enviable job is abroad. Being a cup bearer was an uncommon job in the Bible days because you’re the one that will taste everything the king will either eat or drink. But when his relatives told him what was happening back home, his heart was completely broken, and he made up his mind to deal with the challenge.
He went back home, and in fifty-two days, he and his workers rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem! You’re not a leader until you have the burden to bring succor to those who were going through pain. Dissatisfaction is a pointer that the leader in you is reacting……..
