Welcome to #MoneyWise on #InspireAfricaProject! I want to start by saying that money is not important. In fact, if you don’t like listening to any teaching or reading any article about money you are right. Money is such an evil thing that believers should close their ears whenever someone is talking about it. After speaking someone the other day, a young man was very angry with me. He said, “Must everybody be wealthy?” I said not at all. If all of us become wealthy who will beg money from others?
Money is not important, but almost everything in life is connected to money including the gospel. Thirty minutes on the television can cover what one month house-to-house evangelism cannot cover. To achieve that, we need millions of naira especially when it’s terrestrial television. I know quite well that some wealthy people use their money to manipulate others, but we can use it to execute good projects.
To to fully understand this series, I must explain the four major reasons why we need money.
1. We Need Money To Enjoy Life. It’s good to live in a good house, eat the kind of food you like not just the one you can afford, send your children to good schools both locally and internationally, and equally go for holidays.
Enjoying life in a godly way won’t take you to hell. God is not a poor Man who lives in a slum like some of us portray Him. Look at how God’s palace looks like. Revelation 21:16-23. “The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal.
Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass.
The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.
The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.”
In case you don’t know, to construct one kilometer of that road we just read, you need 400 million dollars! God wants you to succeed and and enjoy life in a godly manner. What He is against is when people starts committing atrocities with money. If you become rich and use your money to ruin the lives of young ladies, and probably start marrying wives like someone who is under a spell, your wealth will definitely lead you to hell.
2. To Empower Others. Look at what God said to Abraham; “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you
and make your name great;
and you shall be a blessing.” Just imagine how transformed your village or town will become if you can train all the orphans from nursery school to the university. In few yeas time, your town will be completely transformed.
God doesn’t want you to become wealthy just for the sake of it, He wants you to become eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. If you’re broke you cannot help anybody. If you must beg before you can eat, how can you help others? Stop seeing money from the negative perspective, see what you can do with it.
3. To Sponsor The Gospel.
The world is in need of divine intervention, and the only way we can achieve that is through massive evangelism. I know that the traditional way of spreading the goodnews is still relevant today, but we need a method that will get the message across faster. So we need electronic media.Television and radio evangelism is needed now more than before.
I remember the day we went to one of the leading terrestrial television stations to enquire about their charges. We discovered that every other program on the station was below N70,000 per episode. But Christians programs are N230,000 per episode. They told us that if we want to take the slot of a program that is already running, we will pay double the amount. So every quarter, we need N3 million to spread the gospel. So can you see why we need money?
4. We Need Money for Politics. Whether you like politics or not, the decisions of those who are occupying political positions right now can affect you. If the national assembly enacts an ungodly law it will be binding on all of us. So instead of sitting on the sideline to complain, can’t we come together and register a political party or sponsor those who are interested?
Jesus said that we are the light of the WORLD not the light of the CHURCH! Unfortunately, most of us have become the light of the church. If we fail to capture entertainment, politics, education and the media, it will be very difficult for us to take over the earth. Stop looking at money from the negative perspective, we need it for an urgent assignment. How can we employ money? To be continued. Wisdom is profitable to direct!
